Are you up for a challenge?

As part of our new online forums, Richard is running the Challenges board – where we will be posing various challenges to the local game development community every other week or so.

Challenges on the forums are a great way to:

  1. Get inspired (how will you address the theme?)
  2. Get creative (how will your game stand out?)
  3. Try something new (experiment with a new game or art style!)
  4. Meet new people (discuss ideas and see who wants to collaborate!)
  5. Stay motivated (post your updates, look at what others are doing)
  6. Finish something (there’s a deadline you need to keep in mind!)

The first challenge was issued today, and the theme is: Dogs!

Ideas? Share them on the forum. Looking for a team? There are sure to be others looking for someone to work with. Not sure how to get started? Check out some of these resources.

Bottom line: Good luck! Have a good time! We’re looking forward to seeing what you create. 😉

Let’s Make Games forums are live!

The Let’s Make Games forums are now live! We’ve had a lot of people ask us where they can:

  1. Post their work-in-progress games
  2. Find a job, work experience, or a like-minded development team
  3. Participate in game development competitions and challenges
  4. Chat about all sorts of randomness

Initially, we’d just make the same recommendation: “Post it to the PIGMI mailing list!” After all, it’s the anarchic cultural heart of the Perth indie game development scene and home to all kinds of community discussion.

Then we thought… maybe people want to see profiles of other members, and maybe they also want persistent threads that they can update and keep current, and maybe there is something else we can offer.

We’ve been testing the forums internally for a few weeks, assigning moderators, and making plans to keep them interesting. Here’s what we’ve come up with:

  • Minh will moderate the Jobs board, a place for people to advertise jobs (paid and unpaid) and look for work
  • Rich will moderate the Challenges board, where we will issue various game development challenges to the community!
  • We’ll also have General Chat and Games categories for discussion and posting of games (including works-in-progress).

So join in, introduce yourself, and start posting. 🙂
