It is not uncommon for indie developers to take on multiple creative roles in order to complete games on a small budget. Yet despite our penchant for multitasking, the audio aspect of game development can still come across as quite daunting. Cue Make a Noise! – an 8-week course on sound production for creatives from various backgrounds, including game developers, to come along and level up their audio production skills.
Make a Noise! is a free course presented by the City of Perth’s Northbridge Piazza that provides hands-on experience in producing, mixing, and sound design within the industry-leading software for live sound and music performance – Ableton Live. The course will be led by Perth Composer, Sound Designer and Ableton Live Certified Trainer, Josh Hogan, who brings a wealth of knowledge having composed for film and games, live theatre, and dance.
What: Make a Noise! [8-week Sound Production Course]
When: Wednesdays, from Oct 14 – Dec 2, 2015
Where: Northbridge Piazza, Cnr James and Lake Streets, Perth, Australia 6003

The course culminates in a Final Feature Performance, and there will also be awards for most improved students across the course (with the grand prize of a copy of the Ableton Live 9 Standard software)!

In stories told across the world (be they in games, books, on screen or otherwise) there are iconic elements that appear time and time again. The reluctant hero, the wise guide, the trials of an adventure and the triumphant return; these are all part of The Hero’s Journey, a common structure for tales of adventures, from Star Wars to Assassin’s Creed, Harry Potter to The Legend of Zelda.
FTI, together with the International Screen Academy, are offering a free 3-hour workshop on The Hero’s Journey for game designers, animators, film-makers and other creatives. Presented by screenwriter, director and producer Simon David Hunter, this accelerated intro course aims to provide insight on creating engaging plots and characters, while avoiding cliches.
What: The Hero’s Journey – Free Open Workshop
When: Thurs, 6 August. 6pm-9pm
Where: Theatre, State Library of WA, 25 Francis St Perth
Tickets: Free! RSVP required via Eventbrite
For more information on this workshop, head on over to the Eventbrite event page, or the FTI website (Please note: Event is now being held in the State Library Theatre, not the Training Lab).
