Desert Child races onto Kickstarter

An animated image from the game Desert Child. A character dressed in jeans and a shirt races across the desert of mars on a hoverbike, swerving past catci, with dust trailing and explosions flying past. The bike speeds past the words "Kickstarter"

Dust off your hoverbike, because Desert Child is up on Kickstarter and needs your help to race to the finish. Created by Oscar Brittain, the developer behind World’s Fastest Pizza and the Fremantle-featuring One Night Only, it got a lot of love as part of Indiecade @ E3 and this Kickstarter campaign is set to take it to the next level.

Desert Child is a Racing RPG set in a dusty world where your only friends are a vintage hoverbike and a bowl of ramen noodles.

Water sprays up behind the bike, as they avoid passing pillars and fire off laser shots. It’s the rags-to-riches story of a broke young racer who fights through gangsters, bounty hunters and pancake cravings to enter the Championship and get off Earth before it E-X-P-L-O-D-E-S (metaphorically).

World’s Fastest Pizza storms Steam

World's Fastest Pizza Screenshot

World’s Fastest Pizza is a quick, comical and somewhat crude game by Oscar Brittain, which you may have caught at the 2015 Perth Games Festival (complete with pizza-box controller). Well at last this cheesy piece of gaming goodness has been delivered and is now available for human consumption via Steam and Itchio!

In World’s Fastest Pizza you must deliver pizza to the denizens of Australia using an armory of SUPERPOWERS and NOT-SO-SUPERPOWERS in your quest to rid the land of hunger and rebuild your space ship to return home.

This one is not for kids, but if you’re up for an order of irreverent humour and amusing Australianism head on over on Steam or Itchi.io.  Hurry up, you’ve got pizzas to deliver!

Backyard.SK Open for Business

SK Games Backyard Store Banner

A little over a month ago the guys from SK Games held a Kickstarter campaign with the hopes of providing a digital storefront for local altgames. Not only was it a complete success, but the BACKYARD.SK storefront is already up and active, ready for your game-buying pleasures.

Currently the store features physical and digital copies of games by the likes of SK Games (GunDash, Skulls, Seed & Icarus), Oscar Brittain (World’s Fastest Pizza) and 2 Hit Studio (One Heart). You can also get your hands on some nifty t-shirts, and the newly released first issue of their zine Backyard number oneThe store runs on a ‘name your price’ system, so while a small monetary amount is suggested, you can choose to pay what you like to show the devs some love.

We at Let’s Make Games would like to extend a belated congratulations to the SK crew on their successful Kickstarter.  And if you’re keen to get some local gaming goodies, simply head on over to the Backyard!

Leave ‘Em Laughing launches Kickstarter

Leave Em Laughing - Now on Kickstarter

While it’s not uncommon to see a comedic game out there in the world, a game centered around stand up comedy is certainly something you don’t see every day. Cue Perth’s own Oscar Brittain, creator of World’s Fastest Pizza, who not only used this unusual concept as the basis for his new game Leave ‘Em Laughing, but also went one step further by throwing in some unique Western Australian flair; featuring music by Perth-based bands and scenery from our very own suburb of Fremantle, this is undoubtably a game like no other that is sure to leave an impression.

Leave ’em Laughing is a procedurally generated stand up comedy game that lets you live the life of comedian Nelson Smith as he creates and performs his act, constantly insults people, avoids his ex, and listens to sweet vinyl.

The game has 8 episodes, each with a unique story that changes each time you play it. Each play session feels like an episode of a sitcom like Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or Clerks: The Animated Series, lasting 20 minutes and with recurring characters and themes that develop Nelson as a character and comedian.

» Those of you who attended the Perth Games Festival may have had a chance to play the game’s alpha. Well, you can now also show your support for this curious comedic tale by backing it on Kickstarter or giving it a vote on Greenlight. If however you missed out, fear not – a beta version will be available to backers, so there’s still time to get in on the act before the show leaves town!
