BrambleLash branches out and takes Tokyo Game Show’s Indie Grand Prize

Image text reads: Tokyo Gam Show 2017 A poster for the game Bramblelash, with a large sticker stating "Indie Prize Nominee: 4Gamer.net". The Bramblelash banner image depicts two of the games playable plant-creatures with vines outstretched towards each other in a style mimicking Michelangelo's famous painting "The Creation of Adam".

Taking the world by storm, Perth-made game BrambleLash was recently awarded the Indie Grand Prize by 4Gamer.net at the 2017 Tokyo Game Show, alongside another Australian title Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles! The purpose of these awards is to ‘discover new stars’, and local studio Bytesprite have no doubt ensnared a thicket of new fans from their travels.

Here’s what 4Gamer.net had to say about it…

“「BrambleLash」は,2人のキャラクターの間に生まれるゴムのような物体を敵に当てて倒していくアクションゲーム。マルチプレイではもう一方のキャラクターと息を合わせてのプレイが必要で,試遊台では初対面のプレイヤー同士の間でも笑顔や歓声が生まれ,非常に盛り上がっていたのが印象的だった。”

BrambleLash is an action game where you destroy the enemy by stretching a rubbery object between two characters. In multiplayer, it’s necessary to breathe alongside the other character, and smiles and cheers were born even between players who met for the first time at the test stand; it was impressive how exciting it was.”

(Note: This is a very loose translation; don’t hold us to the exact wording!)

If you’re interested in some co-op chaos of your own, Bytesprite is available now on Steam! You can also check out some of the photos from the event below, with thanks to the Bramblelash crew and Abylight Studios on twitter.

BrambleLash

Spring is here, and the blooming plant-based protagonists of BrambleLash are getting ready to venture off into the outside world. This creative co-op game is the work of the ByteSprite crew, who you may remember from such posts as “BrambleLash Demo Out Now” and “Oompf! Games fund Winners Announced“. Now they’re reaching out to you, so why not lend a hand and help bring this game about connecting with friends onto Steam.

There was once a time where two-player games involved heading out into the garden and running around with your best friend for a few hours. Times may be a’ changing, but you can still tap into the age old joys of sprinting through the grass, and working together to slice up slimey enemies. Wait, what? Introducing BrambleLash by local studio ByteSprite, a two-player game where your only defence is to stick together.

The twin-stick shooter with only one stick, no shooting, all co-ordination! BrambleLash is a multi-player party game about communication, co-operation and fightin’ grime. Leash up with your planty partner and run sludgy enemies through with your thorny tether, while simultaneously working together to avoid their noxious attacks. Play with your friends, play with your enemies, play with your frenemies!

The first demo for the game has just been released, so if you’re keen to tether up and be a thorn in the side of some sludgy foes, simply head on over to the BrambleLash indieDB page. The game will also feature at Playup Perth: After Dark #4 this week. Grab your self a ticket and you will be able to play the game and chat directly with the development team! Fun times for all!
