SK Games opening in Perth

A new mobile game developer will be opening their doors in Perth later this year, and is looking for artists, designers and programmers to join their team.

SK Games is a company started by Louis Roots, an ECU graduate who has worked overseas in the mobile games industry for the last couple of years, and is now returning to Perth. From Louis himself:

As a company, we really want to be a part of that dev community, through exhibitions, collaborations, and other opportunities that can be easily accessible to the public. We’re looking at a lot of different approaches, but of course the staff will be key to which path we take.

You can keep track of SK Games at their website and social media. We look forward to seeing this new studio grow in Western Australia!

Expressions of interest sought for DFBA Games Co-working Space

The Department for Being Awesome is seeking expressions of interest from potential tenants for their shared co-working game development space. This is a great opportunity to get seats in Perth’s first game-specific co-working space with a group of like-minded, professional game developers.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the space and the DFBA, visit their Facebook page.

For any developers who have released a game since 1st January, 2011, this is a great opportunity to get your game into the running for the $2,000 prize, as well as the honour of  being the first game developer to win the category at the WA Screen Awards!

The entry form can be found at the following link. The form appears to be tailored for film entries, so make use of those Additional Information boxes for all of your game-related details.

Best of luck to all of the entrants!

Games in Progress Photos

The Games in Progress Forum was a great success! We had an awesome turn-out from game developers, entrepreneurs, students and lecturers, and despite running quite a bit over time, we still managed to get a bunch of demos on the Oculus Rift. (Thanks to Matt for bringing his rig in!)

I’d also like to take this opportunity to once more thank our sponsor, Qantm Perth, for providing an excellent venue and on-site support (and yo-yos!) – thanks guys!

And now, for some photos of the event.
